As a news organization that writes about the impact of ubiquitous surveillance on society, The Markup has made a pledge that it will not expose its readers to third party surveillance. This has meant making a lot of sacrifices, building our own tools and learning to live with much less knowledge of our readers than most newsrooms have. This session will walk through those choices and talk about the tradeoffs and lessons learned.
