Serhii Prokopenko is the editor-in-chief of Gwara Media, a local media outlet that received the 2023 Zabel Human Rights Award. Based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, 30 kilometers from the Russian border and near the frontline, Serhii leads a team of reporters and fact-checkers who work to provide accurate journalism during wartime. Gwara Media is the only English-language editorial team in the region, offering vital coverage for local and international audiences.

Under his leadership, Gwara Media has become the largest independent multimedia platform in the Kharkiv region, recognized for its commitment to reliable reporting. It is also a verified member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN), ensuring adherence to global fact-checking standards. Serhii holds a master’s degree in Innovations and Entrepreneurship from Lviv Business School and studied at Kyiv Media School's local journalism program.
