Ann Marie Valentine is the Senior Program Officer at the International Women’s Media Foundation. The Washington, DC-based organization unleashes the potential of female journalists as champions of press freedom to transform the global news media. Ms. Valentine directs the organization’s global grant giving initiatives through the Howard G. Buffett Fund, Reporting Grants for Women’s Stories, and Emergency Fund in addition to managing the IWMF’s African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative. She is an advocate for greater gender equality and diversity in the news media and a supporter of high-quality public interest journalism.
Ms. Valentine has worked with on the ground with journalists in Western Sahara, Morocco, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda, Mexico, and Colombia since joining the IWMF in 2012. She previously worked in communications for an affiliate of the Hands-on Network, an alliance of volunteer catalysts worldwide, and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and religious studies from Gettysburg College.
