Imelda Abano is an environmental journalist and a media trainer/mentor for 25 years now covering climate change, biodiversity, energy, environmental environment-health, illegal wildlife trade, and other environment-related issues in the Philippines, Asia and Pacific Region. She has won national and international media awards, including the Asia Journalists of the Year in 2019, Reap of Honours Awards by the Philippines in 2019, United nations Gold Award on Environment Reporting, Climate Change Media Champion in 2019 and 2020, and the IUCN-Reuters Media Awards on Environmental Reporting, among others.
Imelda is the founding President of the Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists. As the Program Manager of Internews’ Earth Journalism Network for the Philippines and Pacific Region, she has been managing various media activities such as environmental reporting workshops, mentorship, cross-border collaborative reporting, managing story grants, commissioning stories, networking with media organizations and individual journalists, and development of environment reporting resource materials.
