Jazmin Acuna

Jazmín Acuña is co-founder and editorial director of El Surtidor, a digital media outlet in Paraguay specializing in visual journalism. Currently, she is Journalist Fellow at Oxford University's Reuters Institute, where she is exploring trust-building in news by applying an impact methodology beyond the algorithms and focused on grassroots outreach.

Jazmín has championed coverage tailored for young audiences and guided her team to do in-depth reporting about the climate crisis, mis and dis-information and human rights abuses. Under her leadership the outlet has garnered several accolades, including the Gabo Award for innovation in 2018, the Ortega y Gasset Award for excellence in investigation as part of the regional team of Transnacionales de la Fe, led by El Clip; finalist for the International Press Institute Free Media Pioneer Award in 2023; and finalist for the Sigma Awards in 2024.

Jazmin has conducted academic research and led training sessions on her areas of interest with various organizations. She has served as a panelist and facilitator at events hosted by the Gabo Foundation, International Press Institute, Pulitzer Center, Reuters Institute at the University of Oxford, among others. Jazmin is an Ashoka fellow.
