Tess Jeffers is The Wall Street Journal's Director of Newsroom Data and AI. She leads a team of data scientists and data analysts who leverage audience data to support content and distribution strategy. Recent efforts include developing a new suite of contextualized newsroom metrics, building real-time data pipelines and implementing AI models to automate the newsroom's consumer taxonomy. Lately, the team is developing generative AI tools for internal and audience-facing applications. Before joining The Journal, she was a data science manager at a marketing firm, leading AI integration and data strategy projects. She has been an instructor for the LSE Polis JournalismAI Academy for Small Newsrooms and member of the 2023 ONA Women's Leadership Accelerator.
