Roby Alampay is an award-winning journalist in the Philippines who has also made his name in advocacies for press freedom and independent media development throughout Southeast Asia. He is currently the Manila-based Asia Regional Adviser for International Media Support. Prior to joining IMS, Roby was the first executive director of the Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), and for a time served on the advisory board for Open Society Foundation's Program on Independent Journalism. A product of the University of the Philippines and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, he has been recognized for both his journalism and his media development and advocacy work. His startup, PumaPodcast, is the leading podcast for journalism producer in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, producing the first podcasts out of Asia to be curated for inclusion in the US Library Congress Podcast Preservation Project. PumaPodcast has also received recognition and awards such as from the Society of Publishers of Asia, and the Human Rights Press Freedom Award handed out by the The Foreign Correspondents' Club of Hong Kong and Amnesty International.
